Zero Tolerance Joint (EB 36)
April 2000
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Stephen Durr (757) 486-6623

Hermes Abrasives, one of the world's leading producers of industrial abrasives, announces the introduction of the Zero Tolerance Joint (EB 36), used in conjunction with the YR stitch-bonded product line.

A conventional abrasive belt uses a tape joint glued to the reverse side, leaving the abrasive belt thicker over the joint area. This may cause impact marks on the workpiece surface from abrasive machining.

EB36 - 1

Using a Zero Tolerance Joint, the tape can be inserted into the backing in such a way that the thickness of the abrasive belt remains unchanged in the region of the joint.

The wefts on the reverse side that run transverse to the running direction of the abrasive belt and are not subject to tensile strain are removed in the region of the joint.

EB36 -2

Thus YR stitch-bonded abrasive belts with inserted joints make it possible to achieve a considerable improvement in abrasive belt performance with respect to surface quality and material removal rate.

Hermes Abrasives YR stitch-bonded products featuring the Zero Tolerance Joint include: · SB 316 43 YR op · SB 378 YR · SB 378 43 YR · SB 388 23 YR · SB 379 YR · SB 488 YR

To see if a product featuring the patent pending zero tolerance joint can improve your performance, please contact your local Hermes Distributor, Hermes Account Manager, or call Hermes Abrasives at (800) 464-8314.
